my thanksgiving table {and a giveaway!!}

Oh my gosh, I just realized as I was typing this that it is my 1 year blogiversary!!  Exactly 1 year ago, I started writing this blog with no idea what I was doing or how I was going to do it or what I would talk about or if anyone would listen {or care}.

Fast forward a year.  I still feel floored that people actually read {and comment!}.  Oh my goodness, how I love reading your comments!  This blogging journey has been such a fun adventure and I feel like I have gotten to know so many of you, which has been an unexpected reward of writing here.  I am so glad you stop by and so happy to share my handmade journey with all of you.

I want to share some Thanksgiving ideas with you, but I thought it would be fun to giveaway a few necklaces to celebrate this big occasion!  So...leave a comment below and you will be entered to win one of 3 Cameron necklaces.  Winners will be announced here on Monday.  Now, on to the regularly scheduled blog post :)

*********

I am getting really excited about Thanksgiving.  The decorating and the feast and the family and the whole thing.  So...I'd thought I'd share my Thanksgiving table setting from last year and some ideas of what I plan to do this year.

Last year, I kept it really simple with a length of craft paper in lieu of a tablecloth.  I put out some glasses that Mark made from cut wine bottles and filled them with crayons so we could all draw and play tic tac toe and doodle.  Plus, after the meal I was able to roll it up and throw it away, which was perfect.

My centerpiece consisted of a bunch of hydrangeas from the Farmer's market in a simple glass canister and I sprinkled some glass votives along the table.  So easy.

You can see how I made the wine glass tags and place cards with scrap book paper {here}.

So, on to this year.  Since we moved in May, our Dining Room now looks like this:

I've added a few things since this photo, but it looks {mostly} like this.

My plan is to stick with burlap, white and linen with pops of mossy green.  I would like to DIY a similar wreath to this one to hang on each of the mirrors:

And, then for sure a burlap tablecloth.  I would love to do over the top girly, like this one:

Pinned Image

But, since I don't actually sew, the reality is that I will probably go with a draped length of burlap that will look more like this:

I may still run a length of craft paper down the middle of the table over the burlap to make it fun and kid friendly.

I want to keep my centerpiece simple and uncluttered and I really like the look of the mirrored tray with the votives and ranunculus.  That Martha....she gets me every time.

I am going to use the tried and true white pumpkins at each setting to bring in a pop of white and a little more of a fall feel.  I love this look:

I think it's so elegant and simple how they tied the moss colored satin ribbon around the stem of the pumpkin.

And, speaking of moss, check out these lovelies:

Maybe on the buffet?  It would tie my burlap theme in...and bring a little more of that mossy color in.

For the side walls on each end of the Dining Room, we have a big linen pin board where we will be displaying our gratitude tags this year and on the other end of the room, I really want to DIY a big ole chalkboard, a la:

So, there you have it.  What do you think?  Are you starting to think about your Thanksgiving table?

I have my work cut out for me!  I'll post some progress photos soon!

  6. Such pretty necklaces!
I love the look of burlap but hate the smell! I found some fabric that looks like burlap sans the odor and have started using that instead, costs more but doesn't stink! :)

  24. Ooh! I love those ideas! We usually are out of town with the family on Thanksgiving near the beach, so there's not always the homey decor that goes along with the holiday. I think you may have inspired me to bring along my own bits of "fall" to decorate our table with, though! How fun and unexpected would that be?? I'm sold on the white pumpkins and craft paper. Love.

Congrats on the blogiversary!! :D Your designs are beautiful!

  46. What a big milestone! Congrats :) Found you and all your pretty creations through So Childish. I love it!!! And I love how you are excited about Thanksgiving (me too!!!). My husband is working on the Christmas light as I type this comment. Guess he's skipping Thanksgiving.

  47. Like everyone else, i would also love to win one of your neckaces. They're simple and chic and I love that. But on to more things....
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday out of the year. No presents to wrap. No valentines to sign. No baskets to fill. Just eating and being grateful. That sums up this holiday to me.
And so I am grateful to read about someone who is still interested in making this holiday fun and significant. Your ideas for your table are inspiring me to kick it up a notch at our home, too. Stores seem to skip over this holiday and ram straight into Christmas so.....THANK YOU for remembering this special holiday - my favorite - of the year. And maybe if I glam up my table I'll send you a pic!!!
