12 in 12

2012 - greeting card

I mentioned it in my last post, but this year instead of making 1 New Year's resolution, I will be making 12.  One for each month in 2012.  On the first of each month, I'll post about that month's resolution and also share how I did with the previous month.

So, here they are...

Get the house in order
{Now that the Christmas and Birthday hurricanes have passed, I need to get back into my routines.  Time to get things back in order.}

Tackle the paper clutter
{Between 2 businesses, all the paperwork that goes along with 2 kids and the household paperwork, sometimes I feel like I am drowning in paper.  I would like to start scanning more and tossing more and find a better way to organize everything that can't be scanned or tossed.}

{I drink an insane amount of caffeine and not nearly enough water.  And this one sort of leads into the next one.}

{My plan is to run every day for 30 days.  Hopefully I'll love it so much that I won't want to stop.}

Get in the water
{I have been saying that I am going to learn stand up paddle boarding for 2 1/2 years now.  I am doing it this year.}

Check off unfinished projects
{I have about a million, but I am going to pick a few of the ones that would count the most and get them crossed off once and for all.}

Pack on some muscle
{I've never had a problem with my weight, but I used to have a lot more muscle...hello Reid and Grant, goodbye toned body.  That is about to change.}

Take a better photo
{I have a great camera and I take decent photos, but I think that if I really invested the time in a workshop or photography class, I could improve my photos, and my blogging as a result.}

Learn Photoshop
{This has been a goal of mine for awhile, but it just always gets put off.}

Clean out & organize
{Every drawer, every cabinet, every closet, every cupboard.}

Buy and wrap every last Christmas gift
{I am going to be that person done with my Christmas shopping by 12/1.  Even if it's just once in my life...}

31 days of giving
{A few months back I read this post and that is what inspired this resolution.  One random act of kindness every day for the entire month of December.  This is probably the one I am most excited about and I can't think of a better month than December to do it!}

So there you have it.

Here comes 2012...amazing adventures are ahead!!

fresh start

 The holiday shopping and decorating and celebrating is all over and to be honest, I'm over it.  By the time the 26th comes, the decorations and new toys and boxes everywhere start to make me feel just a little bit claustrophobic.  I know a lot of people like to let the season linger, but I love having my clean uncluttered house back again.  I love the fresh start.

I am ready to give the house a big scrub down, organize the toy bins and make a couple trips to Goodwill to lighten up for the New Year.

And, speaking of the New Year, I've started thinking about my New Year's Resolution...

I am going to do something different this year.   Since it's 2012, I am going to do "12 in 12".  One thing each month.  I'll post here on the first of each month about the resolution and let you know how I did on the last day of each month.  I'll be sharing my list with all 12 later this week.  Join me?

tuesday randomness via instagram

Sharing random photos from my phone has become a Tuesday tradition around here.  Just little moments and pieces of our life captured on my instagram app.  I hope you all enjoy the peek into our day to day.

A trip to Sea World with the boys.  I'm not sure I'm 100% on board with keeping Killer Whales in captivity, but the Shamu show is still pretty amazing anyway.

A pin board filled with beautiful Christmas cards from family and friends.  The sight of it makes me so happy.

Leaves changing color in my parents front yard and Reid getting ready to watch a 4D movie with his buddy Kai.

Christmas presents from Amma and Poppa!  Reid got a Green Machine and Grant got a Radio Flyer Trike.

Whenever we entertain, I always have a whole counter covered with cookbooks that I am flipping through.  I decided to copy all the recipes along with my menu and cooking schedule and tape it on the fridge instead.  It was so much easier!

Grants new ride on train from Santa.

Mark on Christmas morning and my new Star magazine {a gift subscription from my sweet Sis}.

Me and my mom on Christmas day.

Legoland for Reid's birthday!

Posing with Kai and Lego Darth Vader and pretending to be afraid...

The Dragon is Reid's favorite ride.  We rode it over and over and over and over...

Reid requested cupcakes with red frosting and sour patch kids playing jump rope.  I cut him off at the jump rope part {who does he think I am?!}  And, the frosting came out more like hot pink than red...oh well, they still tasted just as sugary and Reid gave them a thumbs up, pink frosting and all.

My new watch from Santa.  I may or may not have sent a photo to Santa's cell phone while I was out shopping *wink*

Have a great Tuesday everyone!!

the boy is eight

It's so incredible to believe that the sweet little baby that came home from the hospital and fit in his own Christmas stocking is 8 years old today.

How does it happen that you wait so long to be a mommy and then you count down the days of your pregnancy and then you blink and that little bundle is in 2nd grade?

Last night I flipped through all of my photos of Reid from the past year and picked out some of my favorites.  We are off to Legoland today to celebrate this sweet boy!!

Happy Birthday, Reid-Reid!!

You bring so much joy and laughter to every single day and I feel like the luckiest Mom in the whole world that I got picked to be yours!  You are my funny and determined, my crazy and silly, my energetic and clever, my moody and smart, my sensitive and thoughtful.

I love you with my whole heart.  Happy number 8, my little man!!

I love you a million...

merry christmas

"Remember, this all began with a child.
Because it took nothing but love to begin it,
and it's not really Christmas if love isn't in it."

Your tree may be as large as the room will allow
 with a big yellow star on the uppermost bough,
but of one thing I'm certain,
I'm sure of one thing.

It is love that makes the angels sing.

{from The Spirit of Christmas by Nancy Tillman}

I hope your Christmas is filled with magic and wonder and joy and most of all, I hope it's filled with love.

 Merry Christmas everyone!!

tuesday randomness via instagram...

Hooray, it's Tuesday!!  Time for another round of random iphone pics taken with my instagram app.  Nothing too serious around here, just a peek into our day to day.

Out and about, running errands and trying to get all the million things checked off my "must do before Christmas list"

The deserted pier and beach after last week's rain. My oh so subtle note on the door where the unwrapped Christmas gifts are being stored.

A new custom design.  It's a large version of the Whitney.  And, a bowl of oranges on the counter.  That color makes me happy.

Headed over the hill...see the downtown San Diego skyline in the hazy background?

The highlight of our week was an overnight trip to Knott's Berry Farm last weekend.  {In case you aren't familiar with Southern California, Knott's is a theme park kind of like a cross between Magic Mountain and Disneyland.}  The trip was a Christmas gift from my Brother and Sis in Law.  How nice, huh?!

Me and my Sis in Law.  I love her.

Me and my mom, Grant getting a ride from Uncle Bubba on the walk back to the hotel and Reid showing off his face, courtesy of his Aunt and Uncle.  We told them the next morning that the next time they have his face painted they are going to get to wash it too!  What the heck do they put in that stuff?  It is impossible to get off!!

Mark and Grant on the train ride.

Family pic and the radio on the way there.  This is Reid's favorite song.  He's 7.  If you've ever heard the song, you know why I find this hilarious.  We play it loud and I crack up the whole time.

All loaded up in the car!!

The boys with their Uncle Bubba.  I nicknamed him Bubba as a little girl because I couldn't pronounce "brother".  It has stuck.  We all call him Bubba.

The boys slept in the same bed for the first time ever in the hotel.  It was super sweet.  I heard Reid wake up in the morning and tell Grant, "Good job buddy.  You slept in a big boy bed like me."

The view out the window on our ride home from Knott's.  It was such a great trip.

Reid and Daddy watching the Charger's game and Samson making himself comfortable in front of the fire.

There you have it!  I hope your week is off to a good start so far!
